Asanko Gold deploys BMT’s blast monitoring solution in Ghana
Canadian gold mining company, Asanko Gold, recently deployed BMT’s blast monitoring solution after tests identified blast movement as a source of ore loss and dilution at its Nkran pit, located within the Kumasi Basin on the “Asankrangwa gold belt”.
Bright Fianu, BMT’s Regional Sales Manager-Africa, said “Asanko’s investment demonstrates the potential returns from blast monitoring. Our monitoring solution shows that significant movement occurs within all blasts, and variation of ±50% from horizontal movement mean is common. By accounting for blast movement, customers recover additional ore, often adding 100s of thousands of dollars to the value of a blast. We help customers make every blast more profitable through reducing ore loss, dilution and misclassification.”
Commenting on Asanko’s quarterly performance, Peter Breese, President and CEO, said “At Nkran the recent results from the ore reconciliation process identified blast movements as a source of ore losses and dilution in the pit. We are now deploying blast movement technology to amend our dig plans to maximize gold recovery. We expect to see the full benefits of this program over the coming two quarters as it is embedded into our operational plans….”
